• A member of Team Sweden at the 2009 Under-18 World Championships, Ekman-Larsson was second in scoring among defensemen to teammate Tim Erixon with eight points (2-6-8) in six games, helping Sweden finish fifth.
 
• In 2008-09, playing for Leksand in the second highest league in Sweden (Allsvenskan), he ranked first in the league with a plus-44 rating and first in points (39) among under-18 players. As the youngest player on the team, he recorded 14 assists from the blue-line in 39 games.
 
• Prior to joining Leksand, he played 27 games for Tingsryd in the Swedish junior league and helped Smaland win Sweden’s national tournament, TV-Pucken, in 2007-08. He recorded seven points (4-3-7) in eight games and was named the tournaments Best Defenseman.
 
• His grandfather, Kenneth Ekman, played on Sweden’s National team and represented his country at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan.
